Red Level (1-0, 0-0 1A Region 2) will remain on the road and hope for a similar outcome at Kinston (0-2, 0-0) as the start of region play kicks off on Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.

This will be the 26th matchup between the two teams since they first played one another in the 1981 season. The Tigers lead the all-time series 14-11 over the Bulldogs.

“Kinston will be a tough opponent this week. Coach (Rudy) Free does a great job getting his guys ready to play. This game is a big region game for both of us,” Head Coach Kenny Skipper said. “We have several things that we have worked on for this week. We will need to shore some things up for this week when we face Kinston.”

Last week, Red Level started its season at J.F. Shields and came home happy with a 45-8 win in a Thursday night game. Kinston put up a battle on the road but dropped an offensive shootout at Geneva County, 72-62.

Skipper said he was happy with how the Tigers looked in their first game of the year.

“We did a lot of good things against Shields on Thursday night. It was a great way to start the season,” he said.

Despite playing only its second game, Red Level knows it is time to kick it into gear and have the team ready for the all-important region schedule.

“We will put a game plan together and try to put our guys in the best position to win. I think it will be a great game against Kinston as we play the games that matter toward our chances of making the playoffs,” Skipper said.

The Tigers held on for a 31-29 win at the Bulldogs in 2023.
