Andalusia (0-2, 0-0 5A Region 2) will travel east and look to keep its unbeaten record against Headland (2-0, 0-0) alive in the first region game of the season on Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.
This will be the eighth matchup between the two schools since they first met in the 2010 season. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 7-0 over the Rams.
“I know Headland is 2-0 and we are not,” Head Coach Trent Taylor said. “From what I can tell on the film we received, they have a multi-faceted offense in that they are in a traditional offense one play and then single wing on the next play. That makes it difficult and shows us we must prepare for two different offenses. They put up points and have beaten Dale County who is a much-improved football team and Abbeville. The biggest thing right now is that they have two wins under their belt, and to be honest, our kids are still searching for a way to win.”
Last week, Andalusia fell short at Hillcrest-Evergreen in a defensive battle, 13-10. Headland was also on the road but had a different result and defeated Abbeville, 41-22.
Taylor said that he feels the Bulldogs need to eliminate mistakes on offense if they are to pick up their first win this week.
“The mistakes we are making right now are things we as coaches have to correct. These are things that should not be happening on Friday night if we are doing what we need to be doing Monday through Thursday. We have to do a better job of getting our kids prepared and putting them in situations at practice, so the moment doesn’t seem too big for them on game day. We turned the ball over four times last week at Hillcrest and should be eliminating that. More than anything, we have to coach better,” he said.
Andalusia last played at Headland in 2021 and came away with a 41-2 win.
