John M. Peek, a civil litigation attorney based in Andalusia, Alabama has been accepted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
ABOTA dedicates itself to the preservation and promotion of the Seventh Amendment, which guarantees the right to civil jury trials. Members in this prestigious invitation-only group must have tried a significant number of civil jury trials to conclusion and meet high standards for civility and professionalism. More than 7,600 lawyers and judges are involved in ABOTA chapters in all 50 states.
“The American Board of Trial Advocates is the nation’s leader in promotion of the highest level of competence, professional integrity and ethical conduct among lawyers,” Peek said. “I am honored to be accepted into such company and will be forever grateful for even being nominated and considered. Those who know me well, though, know that I am not driven in any respect by awards or positions; one of the keys to my professional life has been that I am simply a regular guy who has had an opportunity to do good in the community.”
Peek hails from Dozier, in rural Crenshaw County, where he graduated high school in a class of eight. He attended the University of South Alabama where he graduated with honors from what is now known as the Mitchell College of Business. He is a Trustee Emeritus of the University of South Alabama, is a Life Member of its National Alumni Association and former member of its Board of Directors, and in 2017 was named one of the 50 IMPACT Honorees of the Mitchell College of Business. After graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law, Peek returned home to practice in Andalusia and throughout South and Central Alabama. Peek has tried numerous jury and non-jury trials in state and Federal Court on both sides of the bar and loves to share a story about successfully defending a case in Miami, Florida, brought by one of the 100 largest firms in the country.
Peek is licensed to practice law in all Alabama state and Federal courts, all state courts in Florida and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Florida. He served two terms as the Bar Commissioner for the 22nd Judicial Circuit and he is currently a member of the Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee.
Peek practices law in the Bank of Andalusia building on the Court Square in Andalusia, renovated by W. Sidney Fuller and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
