Florala (1-0) will look to continue the momentum from last week and remain home to face an even bigger opponent in Class 4A Daleville (0-0) on Friday, August 30, at 7 p.m.

This will be only the third matchup between the two teams and their first time meeting on the football field since 1977. The Wildcats hold a 2-0 all-time series lead over the Warhawks.

“Daleville will be a tough opponent. They have a new coach with over 250 wins and a couple of state championships in Georgia. His experience will be unmatched.  They have good skill players and are coming off a jamboree win versus Samson. They will have a lot of confidence coming into Matthews Stadium,” Head Coach Kyle Davis said.

Last week, Florala opened the season with a 31-25 win over Monroe County at home. Daleville will begin the year under Maurice Freeman who comes to Alabama after a successful 31-year run in Georgia where he went 257-120.

Despite coming to Florala in early August, Davis received a good performance from the Wildcats in their first game. He praised the defense for their efforts in helping pick up the win over a Class 3A opponent.

“I felt that we played a good game for game one of the season being we had very limited time together before it. The defense played extraordinary and forced three turnovers as they only gave up one defensive score. The offense was a little out of sync. The timing was off, but we were able to make enough plays to win the football game. We will have to improve greatly on offense and keep the same intensity on defense as last week to have a chance to win the game.”

Davis acknowledged three Wildcats who were difference makers in last week’s game.

“Rayshon Coleman was our bright spot on offense with 12 carries and 139 yards rushing with two touchdowns. Bradley Norman and Jayden Bradberry sparked the defense. Bradley had seven solo tackles with eight assists, one strip, and one fumble recovery for a touchdown. Jayden had five solo tackles, four tackles for loss, and four assists,” he said.

Florala earned a 24-0 win at Daleville in the previous matchup 47 years ago.
