Straughn (0-1) will travel for the second consecutive week and hope for a different outcome at T.R. Miller (1-0) on Friday, August 30, at 7 p.m.

This contest will be the 11th played between the two teams. TRM holds an 8-2 series lead over SHS dating back to the 2002 season.

“T.R. Miller is another talented team that we get to compete against early in our schedule. They traditionally have had success and have a very talented roster again this year. We want to compete and play against the best teams in the state, and Miller certainly is one of those teams. Coach (Brent) Hubbert and his staff have done a great job down there,” Head Coach Garrett Windham said.

Last time out, Straughn fell on the road to Highland Home, 38-9. T.R. Miller traveled to Montgomery and earned a 28-7 win over Reeltown in the AHSAA’s Kickoff Classic at Cramton Bowl.

Windham added that he felt the Tigers competed and played hard against the Flying Squadron.

“Some of our inexperience showed as the game went on, but it’s definitely something to build on. We did some really good things, and then we did some things that put us in bad situations, too. That game allowed us to see what we need to work on, and that’s what we will do heading into week two. Hats off to Highland Home: they have a very talented team and I’m sure they will do well this season.”

He said Straughn’s goal is to continue improving and being ready to compete each week.

“Our focus right now is working on us and cleaning up a bunch of things we need to get better at to play at a higher level each week. We want to get better each week and to play at a high level as the season progresses,” Windham said.

T.R. Miller earned a 42-7 home win over Straughn during their last meeting on the gridiron in the 2013 season.
