Mary Lee Howard (Blackburn), aged 87, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, surrounded by her family and beloved caregiver. Born on Nov. 4, 1936, Mary Lee dedicated much of her life to her family, church, and community.

Mary Lee graduated from Lanier High School and soon after took on roles that highlighted her nurturing spirit. She worked as a secretary but primarily embraced the role of a homemaker, providing for her family with immense love and dedication. Her commitment extended beyond her household; she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Andalusia, where she participated in the choir for over four decades.

Her involvement in the community was also an important aspect of her life. Mary Lee was a member of the Pilot Club and worked with her husband supporting Habitat for Humanity as well as several other civic endeavors. These roles mirrored her passion for civic duty and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Mary Lee cherished her family deeply. She is survived by her daughters, Jacquelyn Dykes and Sueanna Howard; sons-in-law, Lane Dykes, Jerry Taylor, and Ron Gray; grandsons, John Connor Dykes, Myles Gray, and Chad Dykes; granddaughter, Stacie Dykes, and great-grandsons Carson and Cole Dykes. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Howard Blackburn and Ruby Lee Blackburn; brother, Howard Blackburn; daughters, Sallie Gray and Parecia Taylor; and her beloved husband, John Howard.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 22, 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia, Alabama, with visitation prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. Foreman-Brown Funeral Home of Andalusia, Alabama, is assisting the family during this time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity or the Andalusia First United Methodist building fund in memory of Mary Lee Howard, honoring her life of service and devotion to her community and faith.
