Covington Electric Cooperative Inc. experienced a large power outage on Tuesday that began at approximately 1:38 a.m. and lasted until 5 a.m. with 1,094 members affected in the Sanford, Woodlands, Mt. Pisgah, and Walmart areas.
Reports indicated the outage was caused due to equipment damage at the Five Runs substation. A snake came into contact with energized equipment inside the substation and caused damage to critical components supplying power to distribution lines.
“We want to thank everyone impacted by this outage for their patience as our crews diligently worked to make the necessary repairs to restore power,” a CEC statement read.
