Covington County will once again participate in the 2024 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday beginning Friday, July 19, at 12:01 a.m. and ending Sunday, July 21 at midnight.
Now in its 19th year, this event gives shoppers the opportunity to purchase school supplies, computers, and clothing free of state sales tax. Many cities and counties throughout Alabama waive local taxes as well.
“We have participated in the tax-free holiday for many years and will be doing so again this year,” Covington County Administrator Karen Sowell said. “We encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity from the state,” Chairman Greg White added.
Eligible tax-free items include the following:
- Clothing priced at $100 or less, per article
- Computers, computer software, and school computer supplies at a single purchase with a sales price of $750 or less
- School supplies, school art supplies, and school instructional material at a sales price of $50 or less, per item
- Books at a sales price of $30 or less, per book
