Former Covington County Commissioner Harold Elmore passed away last week at the age of 82.

The three-term commissioner died on Wednesday, June 12, and funeral services were held on Monday.

A lifelong resident of the Stanley Community, Elmore was a graduate of Florala High School and spent his adult life working his family’s farm.

Elmore was first elected to serve District 3 as a member of the Covington County Commission in 2002 and served the residents of that district for 12 years over three terms.

Current Commission Chairman Greg White is among those who served with Elmore.

“Several things come to mind when I think of Commissioner Elmore — he loved his family, he loved the people of Covington County, and he had a special affection for all of District 3. Although commissioners are elected to a part-time position, Harold worked full-time for the people of his district. Mr. Elmore and I didn’t see eye to eye on every issue, but I never doubted his motives of wanting the best for our county, so we were always able to work together. I value the friendship that we developed and retained until his passing,” White said.

Following a visitation on Sunday night and services on Monday, interment was held at North Creek Cemetery.

Among those surviving Elmore include his wife, Ferrolyn Elmore; a son, Jason Harold Elmore; and a daughter, Ashley Elmore Carter.
