Mr. Walter Carol Moore of Andalusia died peacefully at his home on June 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old.
Walter was a 1961 graduate of Andalusia High School, where he lettered in basketball and track. He attended Troy State and Auburn Universities majoring in Building Construction. While in college, he served in the Andalusia unit of the Alabama National Guard. His early experience working summers for Waller Construction ignited his interest in residential and commercial structures. He owned Andalusia Roofing and worked in home and commercial renovations, home inspections, real estate, and claims adjusting.
Throughout his life, he had a deep passion for music, especially bluegrass. He played multiple instruments and found joy in singing and playing guitar and bass in a bluegrass band. He also enjoyed sharing his love of music by performing for local kindergartens and nursing homes. Additionally, he enjoyed dove hunting and fishing. Apart from his love of the outdoors, he was an artist. His paintings were sold at art galleries across Alabama and Northwest Florida. Known for his sharp wit and humor, he always had a joke or funny story to share with others. For over 20 plus years, he dedicated much of his time to Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous as a sponsor and mentor.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judith Moore, sister Kathy Waller Hinote of Milton, Florida, children, Natalie Moore (Leigh Pitts) of Mobile, Bethany Moore of Panama City Beach, Florida, Lee Burns of Andalusia, Brett Burns of Panama City Beach, Florida, and seven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Staff Sgt. Walter Brantley Moore, Annie Lee Waller, William “Bill” Waller, and daughter Debbie Burns.
Walter’s family will hold a small, private gathering to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
