Students from Andalusia Isshinryu Karate competed in the Middle Tennessee Open Karate Games held in Crossville, Tennessee, on Saturday, May 18.

The tournament was hosted by the Lebanon Dojo and Master Tony Williams of Lebanon, Tennessee, with approximately 20 different karate schools competing. Competitors competed in Kata, Weapons, and Fighting divisions, according to their age and experience level.

Four Andalusia Isshinryu Karate competitors attended the event.

Alex Myrick, a men’s black belt, finished fourth in weapons and second in fighting.

Eli Rudd took first place in kata and fourth place in fighting for students competing as 7 and 8-year-old beginners.

Lacey Rudd was third place in kata for students competing as 9 and 10-year-old beginners.

Johnathan Rudd earned first place in weapons and first place in kata. He competed with students in the 11 and 12-year-old brown belt advanced. Johnathan was named the Youth 17 and Under Below Black Belt Grand Champion with all youth division winners competing for the overall championship.

Andalusia Isshinryu Karate will host the 24th Annual South Alabama Karate Championships at Straughn High School on Saturday, June 8 beginning at 10 a.m. Last year’s event drew 21 different karate teams from five states in the area to what has become one of the best tournaments in the Southeast.
