An Andalusia man has been charged with felony elder abuse after allegedly hitting his mother in the head with a machete.
Andalusia Police Chief Paul Hudson said Ashley Scott Moore, 44, is charged with elderly abuse in the second degree, a Class B felony, and is being held in the Covington County Jail.
The Andalusia Police Department was called to a Carver Circle residence at 12:24 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, after receiving a report that a female had been hurt with a machete.
When officers responded, a witness told them her brother hit her mother with a machete after the two got into an argument.
The woman was transported to the hospital by Advance EMS and airlifted to a regional hospital, where she was treated and released.
The Department of Human Resources also has been called to investigate the elder abuse, Chief Hudson said.
Moore also had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.
