James Edward “Jimmy” Ballard, age 71, passed away at his home in Andalusia on May 13, 2024.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 1 at the FOP Lodge in Gantt. Guests will begin gathering around 10:30 a.m. This will be an informal, come-and-go, potluck event, so bring your favorite dish. Tea, soda, and water will be provided.
Jimmy was born in Andalusia, and briefly lived in Dothan, Enterprise, and Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Jimmy was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, and friend. After graduating from Andalusia High School, Jimmy worked at the Martin Theater, the Clark Theater, and Ingalls Shipyard before retiring from Southeast Alabama Gas Company after 34 years of service. Jimmy was a very talented musician who played with several bands in the local area, providing solid vocals and lead guitar. Jimmy has many musician friends, whom he loved like family. Anyone who wishes to bring an instrument, is encouraged to do so. As you know, whenever two or more musicians gather in the same space, music is apt to erupt. Friends and family will be able share stories about Jimmy if they wish. For anyone who has photos they’d like to share, we will have a table set up. Please join the family at this celebration of Jimmy’s life if you are able.
Mr. Ballard is survived by his wife, Valerie Ballard; four daughters, Carrie Nicloe Cole, Jamie Lynn Touchet (Chance) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Lydia Patricia Engelan of Susanville, California, and Karma Ann Laree Carpenter (Jeremy) of Opp; one son, John Joseph Fredrick (Melissa) of Susanville; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Allen Wayne Ballard (Debbie) of Florala and Henry Harrison Hayes Jr. (Gail).
