The Andalusia High School Scholarship Foundation will recognize seven people with the W. Robert Brown Andalusia High School Outstanding Graduate award in this fall.

The recipients were recommended by the Foundation’s Outstanding Graduate Committee, chaired by Mayor Earl Johnson.

The 2024 awards will go to:

• Bill Tunnell – Class of 1964, who is the retired executive director of Battleship Memorial Park.
• Deidre W. Smith – Class of 1988, who is the acting Deputy Civil Rights Director of the U.S. Forestry Service in Washington.
• Hollis Kelley Jr.  – Class of 1984, who is a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Colorado.
• Sue Williams Wiggins – Class of 1968, who is an art consultant who recently opened a gallery in Andalusia focused on textiles, and is working to establish an artist in residence program.
• Dr. Zack Studstill – Class of 1956, who practiced dentistry in Montgomery for 45 years, and is a former executive director of the Alabama Dental Association. He won the American Dental Association’s distinguished service award in 2022. He also was previously inducted in the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame.

The committee also agreed to induct one member posthumously annually, beginning this year. The first inductee will be James Arthur Wilson, longtime teacher and principal of Andalusia High School.

Bert Bean, Class of 2000, also will be honored. The CEO of Atlanta-based Global Insight, Bean was selected last year but was unable to attend the ceremony.

The awards will be presented in a ceremony in Andalusia City Hall on Homecoming Day, set for Friday, Sept. 13.
