To help meet the need for urgent care patients in Opp and the surrounding area, Mizell Memorial Hospital announced this week the opening of the Mizell STAT Care clinic on April 1.
Officials said the clinic will treat patients, ages 3 months and older, for acute illnesses and minor injuries. The clinic will be located on the second floor of Mizell Memorial Hospital and will be open seven days a week.
The clinic will treat such conditions as influenza, COVID-19, strep throat, colds, sinus infections, sprains, strains, lacerations, and other minor injuries and illnesses. Service hours for the clinic will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Patients will be seen on a walk-in basis, no appointments will be needed or made.
Mizell Memorial Hospital administrators said they have long advocated growth to meet the needs of the community and to overcome the obstacles of rural healthcare.
“We are excited about bringing a new level of healthcare coverage to Opp and the surrounding communities. Our citizens of the area have requested a weekend and after-hours option for their acute needs and we are making that a reality” said Mitchell Myers, CEO of Mizell.
“We will be able to help the little ones that get an earache at midnight Friday and can’t wait to see their physician on Monday, as we will be open on Saturday and Sunday,” said Jacque Pebworth, Director of Clinics at Mizell.
Pebworth also noted that the Mizell STAT Care clinic will be “able to handle minor illnesses and injuries without the sometimes longer waits in the emergency department where more life-threatening illnesses are given priority.”
Providers serving in the Mizell STAT Care clinic will be Priscilla Delp, P.A. from Opp, Kyle Rountree, CRNP of Andalusia, and Vicki Senn, CRNP, also from Opp. Officials said these providers bring years of experience in urgent and emergency care.
Dr. James Norman will serve as the medical director and collaborating physician for the clinic.
