Do you love chocolate? Then you will love Willy Wonka! And even if you don’t love chocolate you will still be thrilled by ReACT Theatre & Arts production of the hit musical, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, based on his book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Debuting on stage at the Dixon Center for Performing Arts on the Andalusia campus of LBW Community College, this production will run for four shows the weekend of March 15-17, 2024. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available online only at eventbrite.com and are $15.
Directed by Cathy Powell, this production has a cast of 90 local actors, both children and adults, from across Covington County. You will delight in watching Golden Ticket holders Augustus Gloop be swept away in the chocolate river, Violet Beauregard turn into a blueberry, Veruca Salt go down the “bad nut” chute, and Mike Teevee as he shrinks. But of course, there is Willie Wonka and the fifth Golden Ticket holder, Charlie Bucket who will steal your heart. Oompah Loompahs, Squirrels, Dancing Chefs, Grandparents, and townspeople also inhabit this fantastical world. As an added treat, theatregoers may purchase Wonka Bars from the lobby candy shop in hopes of winning a Golden Ticket themselves.
You will not want to miss this extraordinary production starring Philip McClung as Willy Wonka and Levi Brown, a Straughn Elementary student, and Emma Sightler, a student at Andalusia Elementary sharing the role of Charlie Bucket.
Mark your calendars now as you will not want to miss this talented cast and great musical numbers including “The Candy Man” and “Pure Imagination.”
