Heaven gained the most beautiful and kindest angel on Feb. 16, 2024, when Margaret Jeanine Newby passed away surrounded by her family.
Margaret “Memaw” Newby was 85 years old and was married to Donald Newby. Margaret and Donald had been married for almost 65 years and are longtime residents of Brewton, Alabama, where they raised their two children, Michael and Bryan. Margaret was the most caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the rock of her family and loved them dearly. She also had deep faith in Jesus Christ, and her family finds peace that she is in heaven. She will be remembered for her selflessness and kindness but also for her delicious cooking. To say she was an angel on Earth is the only way to describe her. She will be missed and loved daily by all who know her.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Donald of Brewton, and their sons Michael (Connie) of Brewton and Bryan (Leigh) of Andalusia; her five grandchildren Brooke (Wes) Barnes, Kimberly (Austin) Hardy, Sid (Stacey) Newby, John (Amber) Newby, and Mac Newby; her five great-grandchildren Bryan Newby, Kenny Newby, Thomas Newby, Katt Newby, and Max Barnes; her sister-in-law Mary Ann Odom; her brother-in-law Robert McCurley.
Margaret will be greeted in heaven by family who has preceded her in death: Geneva Smith (mother), Jack Smith (father), Marcus Smith (brother), Carolyn McCurley (sister-in-law), Essie B. Newby (brother-in-law), Roy Newby (brother-in-law), and Floyd Odom (brother-in-law).
Visitation will be on Feb. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton. Service and burial will be held at Pleasant Home Baptist Church on Feb. 20, 2 p.m., with visitation starting at 1 p.m.
To all who knew her, she was Memaw – what a blessing she was!
