The Andalusia Bulldogs’ defense was stingy from beginning to end as they cruised to victory over Slocomb in the first round of the area tournament Saturday, 69-28.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a big lead early, taking a 20-7 edge after one period. Tevin Sigers and Jordan Stallworth each had five points in the opening period, which included both hitting three-pointers. A total of six players scored in the first period for Andalusia, including Noah Curry who added another three-pointer, as the Bulldogs took a 20-7 lead.
The stifling Bulldog defense would hold Slocomb to five points in both the second and third periods. Meanwhile, Andalusia scored 20 points in both of those periods as they took a 60-17 lead going into the final period.
Slocomb did outscore the Bulldogs in the final period, 11-9, but the game was already out of reach for the Red Tops as Andalusia cruised to the 69-28 win.
Leading the offense for Andalusia was Tevin Sigers with 11 points, nine of those coming on three-pointers. Stallworth and Curry each finished with 10 and Tyler Sigers added eight points. A total of 10 players scored points for the Bulldogs.
With the victory, the Bulldogs will host Geneva on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m., in the area championship game. Andalusia goes into the area championship with an overall record of 19-8 while Geneva stands at 21-8.
