Helen Jeanne Grissett Blair, 96, of River Falls, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at her daughter’s residence in Georgiana.
Mrs. Blair was born on July 25, 1927, in Covington County to Hubert and Molly Grissett. She was the second born of five children and the only girl. She graduated from Red Level High School and then attended Troy State University, where she earned her teaching degree. She taught elementary school until she married her husband, John Foy Blair, on Dec. 22, 1955. As John was in the Army, she stopped teaching to travel with him around the country and overseas.
Later in life she loved to relive those days of travel and was in awe that a “poor country girl” was able to have such adventures, especially those in Germany. When John retired from the Army, they moved back to their beloved Covington County and resided in River Falls for the remainder of their lives. She was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church (closed), then West End Methodist Church (closed), and finally Red Level Methodist Church.
She had three children, Marlin, Mary Ann (Donnie), and Susan (Chance); seven grandchildren, Lance (Jenny), Lane, Daniel, Marc (Rene), Sandy (Justin), Chase, and Cali. Her line has continued with great and great-great-grandchildren.
She was a kind, caring, and compassionate woman who was loved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, John (1995), her son, Marlin (2007), and her brothers, Harold, Don, Wayne, and Wendell.
Graveside services were Tuesday, Jan. 30, 11 a.m., at Bethany Cemetery with her great-niece, Emily Fountain, giving the eulogy and Foreman Funeral Home directing. No formal visitation was scheduled; the family visited with friends at the cemetery.
