The Covington County Board of Education convened for the final time in 2023 and approved five personnel matters at a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, Dec. 14.

During the meeting the board approved the following personnel matters:

Retirement

• Ashley Kilcrease as head football coach/physical education teacher at Straughn High School effective Dec. 31

Resignation

• Britton Wood Smith as LPN with Covington County Schools effective Jan. 2, 2024
• Denise Ezell Sansom as paraprofessional at W.S. Harlan Elementary School effective Jan. 1, 2024

Employment

• Garrett Evan Windham as head football coach/physical education teacher at SHS effective Jan. 2, 2024, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Sarah Piggott as elementary teacher at Fleeta Jr. High School with effective date to be determined, pending verification of new or existing background reviews

The board did not set a date for the next meeting.
