Andalusia faced Montgomery Catholic in a face-off for the Region 2 title and, like a year ago, it was the Knights coming out on top, 27-14.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 9-1 overall for the season and 6-1 in region play.

The Bulldogs started strong in the first quarter, but it was not until after recovering a Montgomery Catholic fumble that Jack Lathrop connected with Kal Crittenden for a 56-yard touchdown pass. A two-point conversion gave the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead with 4:32 remaining in the first quarter.

The defenses would take control for the remainder of the first half as Andalusia held on to its lead.

Catholic got things going on offense in the second half, scoring its first touchdown on a 59-yard run at 10:20 in the third quarter. A two-point conversion attempt was no good.

On their next series, the Knights punched into the end zone from one yard out and the extra point gave them their first lead, 13-8 with 4:57 on the clock in the third quarter.

Catholic added to its lead early in the fourth on a 10-yard touchdown pass, making the score 20-8 with 10:13 to go in the game and would add another touchdown at the 7:45 mark to go up 27-8.

Andalusia got on the board with the final score of the game when J’Marion Burnette pushed the ball in from the 1-yard line with 3:59 to go and set up the final score of 27-14.

“We missed opportunities in the first half. It’s scary when you leave that many points on the field and don’t score. We will regroup and start preparing for the next game,” said Andalusia Head Coach Trent Taylor.

Jack Lathrop went 7-of-24 for 144 yards and one touchdown. He also threw two interceptions.

Burnette carried the ball 22 times for 80 yards and a touchdown. Zerrick Jones had three rushes for 15 yards.

Kal Crittenden led the receiving corps with three catches for 69 yards and a 56-yard touchdown. Calvin Daniels had two catches for 19 yards. Tyler Sigers added one catch for 39 yards and Parker Adams caught a ball for 9 yards.

Leading the defensive effort was Zade Newton with five tackles, one tackle for loss, two assists, one pass deflection and forced a fumble. Landen Marshall finished with five tackles, an assist and a fumble recovery. Kam Weaver had five tackles and three assists. Kal Crittenden recorded five tackles and a pass deflection.

For the Bulldogs, the loss completes the regular season with a bye scheduled next week. On Nov. 10, Andalusia will host the first round of the playoffs, facing the third seed from Region 3, which could be Montevallo, Sipsey Valley or West Blocton.
