The Covington County Board of Education approved the bidding of a supplemental grocery bid and also handled four personnel matters at a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The board approved the bidding of a supplemental grocery bid, combined with Opp City Schools and Coffee County Schools, for annual groceries in school cafeterias.
“This is something we have not done in quite a while. Our primary grocery bid is with Merchants out of Clanton, Alabama, but there are some items they no longer sell that we are in need of. Some of the child nutrition directors in our schools have gone to a supplemental bid in the meantime. It will not replace anything on our state bid with Merchants but give us an opportunity to pick up some good quality things. By going in with two other school systems, we hope to get some good pricing as a result. I think it’s a pretty good opportunity for us,” Superintendent Shannon Driver said.
During the meeting the board approved the following personnel matters:
Resignations
- Terri Norris as bus driver at Fleeta Junior High School retroactive to Sept. 22
- Kelly Goolsby as bus driver at FJHS retroactive to Sept. 22
Employment
- Dawn Elizabeth Smith as bus driver at Pleasant Home School effective immediately, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
- Noelle L. Perrin as bus driver at FJHS effective immediately, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
The board also approved selecting member Jimmy Rodgers to serve as a delegate during the AASB Delegate Assembly in Birmingham beginning Thursday, Nov. 30. The board did not designate an alternate for the assembly but said vice president Dr. James Barton could serve that role if he attends.
The board set the next meeting date for Tuesday, Nov. 7, 5:30 p.m., at the central office.
