Red Level drops area match to Brantley in straight sets

Red Level gave a valiant effort but came up short 3-0 to Brantley in a home varsity volleyball match on Thursday, Sept. 14.
The Lady Bulldogs moved to 6-4 on the season and began 1A Area 2 play 1-0 with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-20 win. The Lady Tigers fell to 4-7 overall and 1-2 against area foes.
SET ONE
Kayden Lord had an ace for the first point of the match before Brantley went on a 10-1 run. Alex Grimes had three kills during the offensive spree and pushed the lead to 14-3 with an ace. Kamry Lambert cut the deficit to 16-6 with a kill, and Victoria Walker also added a kill at the 20-8 mark. Red Level was unable to draw closer and fell into an early 1-0 hole.
SET TWO
The two sides played fairly even with one another early in the second set. The Lady Tigers built a 3-1 lead but saw another surge turn into a 6-4 deficit. Elizabeth Carroll scored an ace and forced a 6-6 tie before back-to-back kills from Mary Driggers. Grimes gave the Lady Bulldogs an 11-9 advantage, but Lord evened the score at 11-11 on an ace. Two aces by Kendal Nichols and a kill from Driggers opened up a 17-14 cushion. That was as close as Red Level could get the rest of the way, and Brantley took a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET THREE
Carroll scored an ace as Red Level took a 3-0 lead in the third frame. Brantley drew even at 5-5 and then took an 8-6 lead. Carroll added to her total with a pair of aces and set up a tie score at 11-11. The teams played to three ties before the visitors broke away and took a 21-15 lead. Kennedy Lord was able to connect for two aces and bring the Lady Tigers within three at 21-18. Grimes delivered three straight kills for match point as the Lady Bulldogs picked up the sweep.
After a win against W.S. Neal on Monday, Sept. 18, Red Level remains home and takes on McKenzie in an area match on Thursday, Sept. 21.
