The Covington County Board of Education approved 16 personnel items at a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, June 6.
During the meeting the board approved:
Resignation
- Caroline Carter as paraprofessional at Straughn Middle School retroactive to May 26
- Amber McKathan as principal at Pleasant Home School effective June 30
- Joshua Tyler Ingram as bus driver at Red Level School retroactive to May 26
- Courtney Ingram Williamson as pre-K auxiliary teacher at RLS retroactive to May 26
- Amber Benzee as lunchroom worker at SMS retroactive to May 26
Transfer
- Andrew Lowery from physical education teacher at Straughn Elementary School to physical education teacher at Straughn High School effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year
- Christy Ann McCall from lunchroom worker at Florala High School/W.S. Harlan Elementary School to lunchroom worker at Fleeta Junior High School effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year
- Jessica Johns Gibson from physical education teacher at PHS to physical education teacher at SES effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year

In other business:
- The board heard a presentation of audit report for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2022, given by the state’s Examiners of Public Accounts. Board president Jeff Bailey stated the report meant “everything is in order like it should have been” and “this is as good as we can get.”
- The board recognized students, sports teams, and athletes from Florala High School and Straughn High School. Photos from the recognition can be found in the Saturday, June 10 print edition.
- The board heard a report of the distribution of financial reports that have been reconciled to most current bank statements from Chief School Financial Officer Ressie Gray.
The board set the next meeting date for June 14, 7:30 a.m., at the central office.
