The LBW Adult Education Commencement was held on the Andalusia campus and recognized 19 GED, NCRC, and Career Pathway Completion graduates Thursday, May 18.
Dr. Manuel Johnican served as the guest speaker and told the graduates that completing the program is just the beginning for them.
“You’ve proven that you can do it, and you will do it. Whatever you put your mind to doing, you can do it. I know you can do it, and do you know why? Because if I can do it, you can do it. Recognize what you have completed and keep going. You have accomplished something great,” Johnican said.
Special awards were presented to adult education instructors Brenda Mooney and Jennifer Sanders. LBW Adult Education Director Kate Dust referred to the instructors as “two teachers with a servant’s heart” and “true MVPs.”
Graduates Jessica Brooks and Donnie Powell were each awarded a $1,500 scholarship to continue their education at LBW Community College.
“Today’s graduation is so much more than earning a GED or an alternate diploma. It is a life-changing event. Our program strives to prepare adult learners for success in the job market, college, and beyond by building the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their journey through life. This portion of your journey in life is complete, but that doesn’t mean you’re done,” Dust added.
This year’s LBW Adult Education graduates are Gracy Black, Jessica Brooks, Bette Ann Chandler, Shyla Cox, Shcaria Ashley Haynes, Samantha Harman, Donnie Henderson Powell Jr., Ethan Hunt, Caitlyn Jackson, Towanda Michelle Jones, Hallie Jade Miller, Jessie Odom, Joshua Page, Mason Zane Polston, Crystal Ann Reeves, Briauna Sanders, Sandra Jazmin Torres, Kelly Weeks, and Dominic LaCraig Williams.
The ceremony concluded with a reception sponsored by Cadence Bank.
