Mizell Memorial Hospital will join other hospitals across the nation in celebrating National Hospital Week with the theme “We Are Health Care” beginning Sunday, May 7, and running through Saturday, May 13.

Each year, this special week gives the opportunity for hospitals and their communities to celebrate the hospitals, health systems, and the women and men who support the health and well-being of their communities through dedication and care from the heart. Mizell Memorial is an important part of the fabric of this community today and has been for over 70 years. Mizell plans to celebrate this week with activities each day.

It is important to have quality healthcare in every community. In many cases, minutes or even seconds matter. The COVID pandemic has highlighted the importance of rural healthcare. It is more important than ever to support Mizell Memorial Hospital.

The citizens of Opp and surrounding areas deserve high-quality healthcare. Mizell continues to make improvements to ensure all patients that enter the doors of the hospital are receiving quality healthcare close to home. Mizell continuously makes upgrades to be able to better serve our community. Over the last couple of years, Mizell has been able to add services such as podiatry, outpatient infusion center, a rural health clinic in Elba, 3D mammography, and are in the process of beginning non-opioid pain management services.

Mizell Memorial Hospital was able to navigate the COVID pandemic without the use of any contracted agency staffing. This means the hospital continued to have members of our community caring for their own families, friends, and neighbors. This also means Mizell was able to make use of COVID funds to make more of the necessary upgrades to the facility’s physical plant in order to be better prepared to continue to care for not only COVID patients but every patient who enters our facility.

Mizell Memorial Hospital, the staff, medical staff, and Board of Directors continue to serve the community every day and strive to make improvements to ensure the ability to do so for many years to come. As National Hospital Week is celebrated across the country, please take a moment to thank each member of the Mizell team for their hard work and dedication to this community.
