Dorothy Lee Vines, age 101, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at the Magnolia House Assisted and Memory Care community in Conyers, Georgia. She was born on Nov. 16, 1921, in Andalusia, Alabama, to her parents, Charles and Mary Alice Spurlin.
After her marriage in 1940 to her husband of 65 years, Rev. Nolan Dell Lee, they both attended Beulah Heights University in Atlanta. Dorothy was later awarded an honorary degree in Biblical Studies for her 100th birthday, the oldest living alum at the time.
Credentialed by the General Council of the Assemblies of God (USA), she and Nolan were home missionary pastors pioneering three new churches in Indiana and Kentucky. They pastored throughout their married life across five states. Dorothy was a Sunday School teacher and played the piano and organ wherever they pastored. She and Nolan were also foreign missionaries to Africa and Russia where they shared the Gospel and distributed hundreds of Bibles. Dorothy was a licensed minister until her passing.
Dorothy was also a piano teacher for over 50 years and a member of the Florida Teachers Music Guild. She was an accomplished seamstress making many clothes for herself and her family including her oldest daughter’s wedding dress. She was an avid gamer – board games that is! She loved to spend time with her family, playing Scrabble, and putting puzzles together, which became a family tradition.
Most of all, she treasured her relationship with Jesus Christ and time spent reading her Bible.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Nolan Dell Lee; their children: Alfred Dell, Mary Faith, Nolan Fredrick, James Clinton, Joseph, and Joanna Lee; her husband of seven years, Coleman Hugh Vines; her brothers, Billy and Johnny Spurlin, and her parents Charles and Mary Alice Spurlin.
She is survived by her children Amanda Louise and her husband, Ken Corley of Conyers, Georgia, John Charles and his wife Judy Lee of LaGrange, Georgia, Paul Stephen and his wife Julie Lee of Demopolis, Alabama, Sarah Ruth Lee of Dallas, Texas; daughter-in-law Robin Sue Goldin Lee of Thomaston, Georgia; her sisters Louise Dykes of Lady Lake, Florida, and Annette Staley of Geneva, Alabama; her grandchildren Lisa Milliken, Roy Lee, Beth Manautou, Jonathan Corley, Misty Guthrie, Michael and Matthew Lee, Leah Goodman, Laurie Davis, and Derrick Simpson; her great-grandchildren Kaytlin and Christian Milliken, Natascha Rager, Andrew and Trenton Manautou, Luke, Jenna and Benjamin Corley, Aaron and Ryan Meadows, Brooklyn and Garrett Lee, Charlotte Lee, and many nieces and nephews.
