Florala collects softball victory against Pleasant Home

Florala welcomed Pleasant Home for a 1A Area 2 home softball matchup and earned a 17-2 win in three innings on Monday, March 20.
The Lady Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the first on walks to Abigael Henley, Abigail Barton, and Jaiden Paul. Henley scored the initial run on an error for an early 1-0 lead. Isabella Brooks struck out the next two batters and stranded a pair of runners in scoring position. The Lady Wildcats responded with 11 runs in the bottom of the frame. Meagan Odom led off with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball before Annabelle Bookout walked. Odom crossed the plate on an error and tied the score at 1-1. Three passed balls increased the margin to 4-1 as Abigail Barton delivered a single for a 5-1 lead. Caydence Thomas and Jayla Davis earned RBIs with bases-loaded walks as four passed balls took the score to 11-1 after one inning.
Brooks struck out two PHS batters and had a quick 1-2-3 second. Alyssa Anderson and Katee Prescott earned walks in the home half as each advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. After a pop-up, Bookout reached on a dropped third strike and loaded the bases. Davis hit into a force play before a two-out rally stretched the FHS lead to 14-1. Payton Murray drove home Prescott and Bookout with a two-run double to center, and Abbi Boldin sent Davis to the plate on an RBI single.
Murray took over in the circle and began the third with a strikeout. Barton followed with a single up the middle and scored on an RBI triple from Paul. Murray ended the frame with two strikeouts. Anderson started the bottom half with a walk and scored on an RBI single by Odom. Prescott crossed home on a passed ball for a 16-2 lead before Davis drove in Odom with an RBI single and ended the game via mercy rule.
Boldin paced Florala at the plate with a 2-for-2 showing and scored a run with an RBI. Murray finished 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBIs, while Odom was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored three runs. Brooks was credited with the win and allowed one earned run in two innings, while striking out five. Barton and Paul went 1-for-1 in the loss for Pleasant Home.
The Lady Eagles face Houston County on Thursday, March 23, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Wildcats take the field again Tuesday, April 4, with a JV/varsity doubleheader at Kinston starting at 4 p.m.
