Betty ‘Beebe’ Merrill Phillips went peacefully to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Feb. 23, 2023.
Beebe was born on Sept. 11, 1942, to Fan and Taylor Merrill of Andalusia, Alabama. Beebe was the apple of her daddy’s eye. She was popular and well liked throughout school in Andalusia and attended Huntingdon College after high school. She met her husband, Charles (Chick) Ray Phillips, at Huntingdon. Chick preceded Beebe in death in 2010. Beebe leaves behind her daughter, Merrile (John) Stroud, son Taylor Phillips and granddaughters, Anna Stroud, Sally Stroud, Tay Tay (Carter) Helm, and Beebe (Ender) Doe.
Beebe was known for her beauty, inside and out. She was once The Peanut Festival Queen and won other beauty honors while in high school and college. She entertained often and everyone always left her home feeling loved and known. She loved playing bridge and tennis, reading, seeing movies and Broadway shows. She passed these loves down to her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime member of First Methodist Church, where she volunteered with the Respite Ministry and was a Bible Study Fellowship leader for many years. Beebe lit up any room she entered and had a contagious laugh and mischievous green eyes. She will be greatly missed.
To honor Beebe’s life, please consider a contribution to The Karl K. Stegall Scholarship Fund through First Methodist or to The Respite Ministry at First United Methodist, 2416 West Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, Alabama 36106. Brookside Funeral Home and Crematorium and Memorial Gardens of Millbrook, Alabama, are directing.
