Mr. Tony Lynn Holmes, age 67, of the Stanley Community died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023.
Funeral services for Mr. Holmes will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m., from the Foreman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Eugene Meadows and Rev Merrill Davis will officiate.
Tony was born August 29, 1955, in Andalusia to Mr. and Mrs. James L. Holmes. He spent his entire life in the Stanley Community, working with his dad in cattle farming and also working in the family business, Holmes Pecans. Tony attended school in Florala and graduated from high school in 1973.
After graduation, he began working with the family business growing and marketing pecans and raising cattle and continued doing so right up until his death. In 1973 he met his wife, the former Lynne Warren, and 6 months later they got married. From this marriage came four children: Brett and his wife Lori, Amanda and her husband Chris Inabinett, Ashley and her husband Justin Morgan, all of the Stanley Community, and Brandy and her husband Paul Hudson of Andalusia; five grandchildren, Andrew Holmes, Rylynne Inabinett, Avery Morgan, Ashlyn Morgan, and Audrey Inabinett.
A member of Red Oak Baptist Church, Tony also had a deep love for baseball. He coached baseball in the Andalusia City League from 1983 until 1996. He also umpired high school baseball for 17 years. He loved mullet fishing on the Alabama River and was also a skilled carpenter.
Tony also found time to give back to his community. He served as a deputy sheriff under former sheriffs Wilbur Mitchell and Anthony Clark. At the time of his death, Tony was serving his second term as a County Commissioner for District 3.
