Bulldogs fall to Geneva in thrilling area title game, 85-83

The Andalusia Bulldogs finished as the area runner-up after falling to Geneva in a nail-biting area tournament championship game, 85-83.
Geneva got off to a hot start, scoring the first eight points of the game. A basket by Christian Sheridan followed by a three-pointer from Tevin Sigers got things going for the Bulldogs, cutting the lead to 8-5. Geneva held a 10-point lead twice during the first, but Andalusia cut it down to seven points by the end of the period, 28-21.
The second period saw the Bulldogs roar back, with Kam Weaver and Tyler Sigers each hitting six points. Meanwhile, the defense held Geneva to only 12 points in the period as the Bulldogs took a 43-40 lead into halftime.
The game stayed close in the third. Andalusia scored four three-pointers, including two from Jordan Stallworth, but Geneva outpaced the Bulldogs with five three-pointers that lifted the Panthers to a two-point lead, 67-65, setting up a thrilling final period.
Both teams exchanged baskets and held multiple leads down the stretch. Stallworth hit two more three-pointers in the period and Weaver contributed five points as the Bulldogs to an 83-82 lead with only 1:16 to go. Geneva tied the game at the minute mark on a free throw and a few seconds later hit the final basket of the game to earn the two-point victory and the area title.
Leading the offense for Andalusia was Weaver with 22 points. Tyler Sigers finished with 19 and Stallworth added 15, including four three-pointers.
As area runner-up, the Bulldogs (12-14) traveled to Montgomery Catholic Tuesday night for the south sub-regional and ended the season with a 73-65 loss.
