Local teams to compete at cross-country state championship

Covington County will be well represented with 21 athletes at the AHSAA 2022 State Cross Country Championship Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Moulton.
Girls and boys from Florala, Opp, Pleasant Home, Red Level, and Straughn participating in the state championship meet are as follows:
- Florala – Christina Sanders
- Opp – Haley Vendetti, Parker Burgess, Vivek Patel, Gehrig Presley
- Pleasant Home – Pressley Kelley, Andrew Clark, Jackson Hawkins, John Isaac Hawkins, Vance Kelley, Blake McKathan, Jack Wiggins, Joel Wilkinson
- Red Level – Luke Hodges
- Straughn – Reagan Bartholomew, Kaitlyn Bybee, Faith Eib, Clara Worley, Elise Worley, Brayden Frye, Cameron Wambles
Girls from Opp and Straughn will begin at 10:30 a.m. Girls from Florala, Pleasant Home, and Red Level will start at 11:10 a.m.
Boys from Opp and Straughn will begin at 11:30 a.m. Boys from Florala, Pleasant Home, and Red Level will start at 12:10 p.m.
Class 3A awards will be held at 12:30 p.m. followed by Classes 1A and 2A awards at 12:50 p.m.
According to the AHSAA, teams will be permitted to make substitutions 30 minutes prior to the first race.
Trophies will be awarded for the winner and runner-up teams in each classification. Medals for the first 15 places will be also given out in each classification.
Tickets must be purchased online through GoFan. The AHSAA has set admission at $12 per person plus a convenience fee.
