Andalusia dominated six straight sets and picked up two sweeps to claim the 4A Area 3 Volleyball Tournament championship at home Thursday, Oct. 13.
The Lady Bulldogs (31-9) earned a 25-13, 25-8, 25-11 win against Dale County (6-22) in the first semi-final match and took down Slocomb (9-13) in the title game, 25-11, 25-8, 25-8. The Lady Red Tops stunned second seed Geneva 3-2 (25-22, 9-25, 28-26, 26-28, 15-8) in the second semi-final match.
“It’s an awesome feeling to be the area champions. It’s what we’ve been working for since July when we went to camp. We have been back and forth with Geneva this year, so it was unexpected to play Slocomb in the championship match. Hats off to them for showing up with six girls and playing their hearts out. It was a really good day for our program,” Andalusia Head Coach Angie Grimes said.
The Lady Bulldogs will head to Montgomery for the South Super Regional at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex next week. Andalusia begins action Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 10:15 a.m. against Sipsey Valley.
“Now that we’ve won the area, we have to really dig down and get ready for regionals,” Grimes added.
