The Covington County Board of Education made 14 personnel changes in preparation for the 2022-2023 school year during a regularly scheduled board meeting Tuesday, July 19.

During the meeting the board approved:

Employment:

• Patrick Whitehurst as band director at Florala High School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Presley Sherer as special education teacher at FHS effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Katrina Fowler as paraprofessional at Red Level School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Jessica Fowler Wyrosdick as library media specialist at Straughn Middle School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Arlena Byrd as elementary teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Terry Carnley as bus driver at Straughn High School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
• Walt Henderson as bus driver at SHS effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews

Resignation:

• Brittany Van Winkle as band director at FHS retroactive to June 30
• Nikki Crum as library media specialist at RLS retroactive to June 30
• Heidi Bedell as paraprofessional at RLS retroactive to July 11
• Noelle Loraine Perrin as bus driver at SHS retroactive to July 12
• Christine Lewis as collaborative education teacher at WSH retroactive to July 12

Transfer:

• Emily Skipper from library media specialist at SMS to library media specialist at RLS effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year
• Angela Petty Johnson from elementary teacher at WSH to pre-K teacher at Fleeta Junior High School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year

In other business:

• The board adopted school handbooks for RLS and FJHS for the 2022-2023 school year.
• The board adopted a revision to the Covington County Board of Education Policy Manual regarding the non-resident policy.

The board set the next meeting to be held Tuesday, August 2, at 5:30 p.m. at the central office.
