Mr. Jimmie Lee Wambles of Andalusia passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022. He was 88.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 23, 10 a.m., at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Rev. John Hunt will officiate. Military honors will be presented. Serving as pallbearers will be Carroll Biggs, Shannon Biggs, Tanner Carroll, Todd Carr, Dennis Alred, and Jason Walker.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Brenda (Lynn) Biggs of Andalusia; daughter-in-law, Cathy Wambles of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Brent (Kristen) Wambles, Shane Wambles, Astin Carr, Lindsey Carr Carroll, Megan (Jansen) Henry; great-grandchildren, Logan Wambles, Sophia Wambles, Taylor Jowers, Kynlee Todd Carroll, and Baelyn Henry.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Taylor Wambles, in 2020 and his son, Terry Wambles in 2018.
Mr. Jimmie owned and operated “Jim’s Grocery” for 18 years until the “big box stores” thinned out many of the small “ma and paw” businesses. He then became employed with Shell & Exxon in Alaska. He remained there for about 30 years and his last project was being the managing environmental specialist for the Valdez Oil Clean-up.
In retirement, he stayed busy picking up pecans in his pecan orchid, cutting grass with his beloved zero turn mower, and having a bountiful vegetable garden every summer. Many folks in Andalusia were the surprised benefactors of a bushel of green beans, peas, and okra delivered by Jimmie.
His life also leaves the legacy of a wonderful testimony. Jimmie asked Jesus to become his Lord and Savior at the age of 78. Before his wife’s passing, she would share with others, “to never stop praying.” Her testimony was that she had prayed 52 years for her husband to be saved in Jesus Christ. Her prayers were answered and after that, she never sat on a church pew alone. Jimmie was always there with his arm around her.
