Betty J. Grimes, 90, died on Jan. 9, 2022. She was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Greenville, Mississippi, to Carlisle and Letha Mae King.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank, and her children Tim and Mandy.
Betty Jean King Webb Youngblood Grimes Cooley married for the first time at age 16 and outlived all four of her husbands: W.A. Webb, J.B. Youngblood, Levoyde Grimes, and Monroe Cooley, acquiring and keeping new family members and friends each time.
She loved dancing and country music and kept her mind sharp by breezing through Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Few dared to challenge Betty in Scrabble, Checkers, and especially Dominos.
She leaves behind her son Steve and his wife Sindy, her son-in-law Steve Dunn of Humble, Texas; her grandchildren and their spouses, Chris (Sarah) Webb, Justin Webb, Ben (Laura) Sapp, Elijah (Jenni) Dunn, Rachel (Zach) Schultz, and Danica Sutherland; and great-grandchildren Alexa, Ian, Max, Sam, Rose, Millie, Heidi, Joey, and Cameron; her nephew Kenny Youngblood of Mountain City, Florida, and the extended Cooley clan including Marty, Ricky and Becky, and Windy.
Her many friends and relatives have been an enormous help and joy to her. A sincere acknowledgment to June and Lucy, Terri and Waylon, Libby and Roger, Ronny and Tammy, Karon and Debbie Norris, Jimmy Davis, and all those who helped her through her late husband Monroe’s final years.
We will miss her beautiful blue eyes, her unsurpassed cornbread, pork steak, and turnip greens, and her stoic strength in times of trouble.
There will be no service, per Betty’s wishes.
You’re going home, Momma.
