Revenue Commissioner, George L. (Chuck) Patterson, Jr., along with his staff at the Covington County Revenue Commission is reminding residents that property tax payments are due by Dec. 31. Delinquent fees will be assessed beginning Jan. 4. The office is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office is closed Dec. 23-24 and Dec. 31.

Residents who are eligible for the “Over 65” Homestead exemptions can fill out applications and return those through December 31st.  Any new homeowner who wishes to add a homestead exemption to their residence must come in to sign up for that exemption by December 31st. Property owners who have made any changes to their deed will need to check to ensure all the exemptions they are qualified for are still in place after the change. Taxpayers may also inquire about applying for current use for parcels of 5-plus vacant acres or parcels with 6-plus acres with a home site.

Payments can be made through the United States Postal Service, online at www.covcounty.com, or in person at our office inside the Covington County Courthouse. Be advised there is a 2.35 percent service fee for all credit/debit card transactions.
