The Veterans Parade is returning to Andalusia on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 9 a.m. this year.

“The Chamber is excited to bring back the parade this year. I personally have many family members who are veterans. Honoring them is very near and dear to my heart,” Andalusia Area Chamber Executive Director Laura Wells said.

The Chamber will provide floats that will be decorated and prepared for veterans and their immediate families to ride on.

“We are also opening up the parade to include floats, vehicles, golf carts, and walkers. It’s free to be in the parade. We want to encourage everyone’s participation to make this year’s parade one to remember,” Wells added.

The Chamber is also thrilled to announce the South Alabama Regional Airport has graciously donated 10 airplane rides. “Pilots John Roberts and Joey Davis have donated their time and talents to take these individuals on flights that afternoon. A drawing will be held the morning of the Veterans Parade, and you must be present to claim your winnings,” Wells said.

Entry for the raffle can be made on the Chamber’s Facebook page at Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We want our focus to be on our veterans. Showing them our support and gratitude by honoring them for their service,” Wells said.

The parade route will begin on 3rd Avenue and will end at Andalusia City Hall with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Covington Veterans Monument. There will also be a Veterans’ Day program at the monument featuring a guest speaker who is also a Vietnam veteran. “Taps” will be played along with a tribute in memory of fallen soldiers and the laying of wreaths.
