Straughn punches ticket to playoffs; Opp wins, Florala falls

The Tigers avenged a double-overtime loss to the Warriors last year and won their third straight game in a nail-biter, 21-18. The win gives Straughn (7-3, 5-2 4A Region 2) the number two seed in the region and a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2016. SHS will host a first-round playoff game in two weeks against the third seed from 4A Region 4. Straughn last hosted a home playoff game in 2015.

W.S. Neal 8
The Bobcats finished the regular season strong with a 34-8 thumping at W.S. Neal. Gray Jennings finished 9-of-17 passing for 194 yards and four touchdowns. Terry Davis had 13 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown. ZaZa Lindsey added two receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns as DaDa Stoudemire also caught two passes for 39 yards and a score. Ethan Cox led the defense with 10 tackles and was followed by Zack Hill with 9 tackles, a sack, and an interception. Opp (8-2) finishes as the two seed in the region and hosts a first-round playoff game against 3A Region 4’s three seed in two weeks.

The Wildcats wrapped up their region schedule with a hard-fought loss to the Bulldogs on the road, 54-24.
Florala (3-6, 3-4 1A Region 1) hosts Providence Christian (3-6) in the final game of the season next week.
