Opp edges closer to region title; Straughn wins Homecoming, Red Level falls

Opp is one step closer to winning the 3A Region 2 title after claiming another victory Friday night.

The Bobcats defeated the Panthers in lopsided fashion, 49-6, to clinch a first-round home playoff game. Opp needs a region win next week to clinch the top seed.

Gray Jennings finished 8-of-14 passing for 99 yards with a touchdown and added 8 carries for 51 yards and another score. Terry Davis led the rushing charge with 19 carries for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns to go with a 34-yard touchdown reception. ZaZa Lindsey and Nathan Smith also added touchdowns on the ground. DaDa Stoudemire had 4 receptions for 33 yards.

Cole Jennings paced the OHS defense with 10 tackles and a sack of -9 yards. Jordan Kelley earned 5 tackles and a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Opp (7-1, 5-0 3A Region 2) wraps up region play with a trip to Slocomb (4-3, 3-1) next week.

Red Level 8

Samson 30

Red Level (2-4, 2-3 1A Region 1) fell on the road to Samson, 30-8, and hosts top-ranked Brantley (6-0, 5-0) next week.

B.T. Washington 22

The Tigers (5-3, 3-2 4A Region 2) snapped a three-game slide with a 28-22 win over B.T. Washington. Hannah Albright was crowned the 2022 SHS Homecoming Queen.

Straughn closes a three-game homestand against Alabama Christian (5-2, 4-1) next week.
