Theus kicks two field goals in collegiate debut

Gage Theus, a 2021 Andalusia graduate, played in his first collegiate game at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas Thursday night and finished as the team’s highest scorer.
FSCC fell to Highland Community College, 21-13, in the season opener for both teams. The Scotties (1-0) had a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Theus kicked a 35-yard field goal to put the Greyhounds (0-1) on the board with 5:01 left in the first half. HC scored a late touchdown in the second for a 14-3 lead at halftime.
After a scoreless third, Theus closed the gap to 14-6 with a 43-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. Highland pushed its lead out to 21-6 following a big kickoff return. Fort Scott had an 85-yard punt return with 4:57 to go in the game. Theus added the PAT for the final point of the contest.
Theus also had a few kickoffs and made a tackle on a kickoff return.
The next game for the Greyhounds is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. against Garden City Community College.
