County schools raise substitute pay

The Covington County Board of Education has approved a pay hike for teacher substitutes.
According to Superintendent Shannon Driver, teacher substitute pay has been the same for many years. The board approved an increase of $10 for substitutes, raising the daily pay from $60 to $70.
The board also made several personnel decisions during its regularly scheduled board meeting Tuesday. The board approved the following personnel actions.
Resignation:
- Jennie Hill Ward as Science teacher at Florala High School retroactive to July 6
- Teresa Cantrell Richardson as elementary teacher at Red Level School retroactive to July 15
- Lisa S. McNeill as elementary teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary School retroactive to July 22
Retirement:
- Judith Traywick Bozeman as Special Education teacher at Straughn Middle School retroactive to June 30
Employment:
- Kimberly Hilburn Strickland as Science teacher at Florala High School effective at the beginning of the school year
- Hayden Raines as elementary teacher at Red Level School effective at the beginning of the school year
- Tamara Roberts Wilson as Mathematics teacher at Red Level School effective at the beginning of the school year
- Gary Ben Martin as Special Education teacher at Straughn Middle School effective at the beginning of the school year
- Michelle Jane Sharon as Special Education teacher at Straughn Middle School effective at the beginning of the school year
- Brooke Eddins Centner as elementary teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary School effective at the beginning of the school year
In other business, the board adopted revisions to its Acceptable Use and Digital Citizenship Policy. The next meeting of the Covington County BOE is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, August 31 at the central office.
