The Andalusia Chamber of Commerce has partnered with ALPALS, the Covington County Sheriff’s Department and the Opp Chamber of Commerce to sponsor Clean Up Covington County.

Throughout this week there has been a theme for citizens to participate in cleaning up their own neighborhoods.

On Monday, it was Mark a Mile Monday, where citizens clean up a mile of a county road.

Tuesday was Tackle Trash Tuesday, where citizens clean up a city road.

Wednesday was Walk the Neighborhood Wednesday, where citizens clean up their neighborhood.

Thursday was Thoroughfare Thursday, where citizens clean up the area between two businesses or parks.

Friday is Clean up Covington County with the Crew, where the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce, ALPALS, the Covington County Sheriff’s Department and the Opp Chamber of Commerce will all meet at Sitel at 8:30 a.m., to clean up roads in the entire county.

“Anybody can come and volunteer to clean up on Friday,” Andalusia Chamber of Commerce Director of Membership Services Maggie Holmes said. “We will all get on a CATS bus and ALPALS and the Sheriff’s Department already have places picked out where we will pick up litter. We are going to be doing Andalusia and Opp, as well.”

Holmes said this initiative is important because keeping the community clean will attract businesses to the county.

“Not only do we get to see how clean the county can be and appreciate it, but there are tons of people who pass through this county,” Holmes said. “People who come from out of town who want to start a business, or people that drive through on the way to the beach look around our city as they pass through. Nobody is going to want to stop if it is nasty. We need to keep it appealing. It is super important to keep our entire county clean so we can continue to grow and progress.”
