Dr. Daniel Shakespeare, current principal of Andalusia High School has been named Andalusia City Schools superintendent.
At a special called board meeting, the ACS Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Shakespeare.
Board member Amy Dugger said there were other quality applicants, but Shakespeare’s skillset was what they need.
“He is following Mr. Watson after 11 years of exemplary service here,” Dugger said. “Dr. Shakespeare’s influence at Andalusia High School has not only influenced the school, but the community, as well. We look forward to his service as the superintendent of Andalusia City Schools.”
Shakespeare said that he is honored and excited at the same time to serve his alumni as superintendent.
“I am excited to be given this opportunity,” Shakespeare said. “We will work to continue to move this system forward.”
Starting out in education, Shakespeare said his goal was to make an impact on his student’s lives.
“My goal was always to make a significant impact on student lives and in many cases, they made more of an impact on my life than theirs,” Shakespeare said. “Coming to Andalusia, being the superintendent of Andalusia City Schools has been one of those things that I have always wanted to do.”
Looking forward, Shakespeare said he is focused on making Andalusia one of the top-performing schools in Alabama.
Shakespeare is the first Andalusia High School graduate to serve his alma mater as superintendent.
“I don’t think you will find someone who loves Andalusia education and Andalusia High School more than Daniel Shakespeare,” Shakespeare said. “I just thank God for this opportunity to serve as the chief educational officer for Andalusia City Schools. I will continue to work just as hard as I did as principal to be successful as superintendent of Andalusia City Schools.”
Shakespeare said an announcement about the new Andalusia High School principal will be done on a later date.
