Mr. John R. “Jack” Harper, 81, of Andalusia, passed away Monday March 15, 2021 at his residence.
He was born in Conecuh County, AL on June 30, 1939 to John R. Harper, Sr and Ida Floride McCreary Harper. He was graduated from Evergreen High School in 1957 and Auburn University in 1962. He was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture for over 30 years. He also farmed part time growing soybeans in Bay Minette and later ran a family cattle operation before switching to pine trees.
During his retirement years, he divided his time between the farmhouse in Conecuh County and the bay house in Orange Beach, AL where his hobbies varied from deer and turkey hunting, freshwater and saltwater fishing and playing guitar and singing with a country band.
A private graveside service will be held at Brooklyn Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing. Brother Jack Williamson will officiate the service.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Sharon Kay Hunter Harper of Andalusia; Children, Miriam Kay Harper of Buford, GA, John Taylor (Rosemary) Harper, Sharon Kelly (Frankie)Massey of Lucedale, MS; and three grandchildren, Will (Paige) Fagerstrom, Miriam Fagerstrom, and Kate Massey (fiance’ Daniel DeVon).
He is preceded in death by his parents, John R. Harper, Sr. and Ida Floride McCreary Harper.
