Four men that have been charged with murder all have their trials scheduled for the week of March 15.

In 2016, the Star-News reported that then 18-year-old Diamond Dontai Crittenden was charged with murder after hitting 81 year-old Evergreen man, Charles Taliaferro, aka “Charlie Boy.”

Hudson said the APD’s investigation began that Saturday, when the department responded at 6:45 p.m. to an automobile accident with possible fatality on Dixon Street in Andalusia.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased, Taliaferro. Upon further investigation, it was determined foul play was involved. Throughout a lengthy search and investigation, a suspect was taken into custody and arrested, he said.

It was the first murder in the City of Andalusia since 2001, Hudson said.

Davonte Burnette was later indicted by a grand jury for murder in the same case.

According to a Star-News article in 2018, an Andalusia man was charged with murder in the 2018 shooting death of a River Falls man.

Jeremy Alan Beam of Andalusia, 35, of Andalusia, was charged with murder in the death of Marvin Wayne Moose, 39, of River Falls, according to an updated APD press release.

The APD answered a call of a shooting incident on Barton Street at approximately 10:38 p.m. where they found Moose with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to the Andalusia Health, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Investigators conducted several interviews during the course of the night and were able to identify Beam as a suspect. He was held in the Covington County Jail with a $1 million bond.

A Covington County grand jury indicted James Benton Horn on multiple felonies, including murder, on Dec. 13, 2018.

Horn, age 50, of Andalusia was arrested on Aug. 31, 2018 and charged with murder, second degree arson, and first degree criminal mischief in the June 20, 2018 death of Bruce Wayne Nelson.

Deputies were responding to a call of a suspicious vehicle on Brooklyn Road at 3:45 a.m. Wed., June 20, when they observed a vehicle that had been burned and was smoking at the Nelson’s Brooklyn Road residence. They found his body near the vehicle.

Horn’s indictments are:

• Murder, a class A felony. According to the indictment, Horn did cause the death of Nelson.

• Arson II, a class B felony. The indictment says that Horn did intentionally damage a building of Nelson’s at 7034 Brooklyn Road by starting or maintaining a fire or causing an explosion.

• Criminal mischief I, a class C felony. The grand jury found that having no right to or any reasonable ground to believe that he had such a right, did inflict damage to a Mazda car in an amount exceeding $2,500.

• Theft of property III, a class D felony. According to the indictment, the grand jury found that Horn did knowingly obtain or exert unauthorized control over and/or did obtain by deception control over, U.S. currency a further or more detailed description being unknown to the grand jury, the property of Nelson of the value of in excess $500.

Horn was being held at the Covington County jail on a $1,115,000 bond, but the grand jury set a new bond at $1,125,000.
