A man wanted in connection with a Lowndes County murder is believed to be hiding out in Covington County.
Sgt. Jeremy Marvin, an investigator for the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, said at a press conference on Tuesday, which was held inside the courtroom at the John Williams Courthouse in Hayneville, that authorities had arrested Cory Allen Cowart, but are now actively searching for his father Terry Allen Cowart, in connection with the Feb. 8 murder at the BP store at the intersection of Hwy. 97 and Hwy. 80 in Lowndesboro.
Cory Cowart, 34, was arrested at his home and charged with murder.
Terry Cowart has lived in Covington County previously, Marvin said.
Marvin also said they are working with Covington County Sheriff Blake Turman to find Cowart.
Cory Cowart is being held in the Lowndes County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
Marvin said Cory Cowart and the victim, Robert Javaris Grant, 29, who was shot to death, were both drinking alcohol when they got into a verbal altercation inside the BP store and the altercation continued into the BP parking lot.
Anyone with any information on Terry Cowart is asked to contact the Covington County Sheriff’s Office or the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at (334) 548-2151.
