First Class Pre-K sign ups underway

First Class Pre-K signups are underway for all county and city schools.

Enrollment is open to all children four years of age on or before September 1, 2021, who are residents of the state of Alabama. Children who are eligible for kindergarten are ineligible.

Enrollees must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate, which may be uploaded into the online pre-registration site or submitted directly to the local school/program.

Enrollees must also provide proof of residence – either a current utility bill or copy of a lease or mortgage. It also may be uploaded into the online pre-registration site or submitted directly to the local school/program.

Public school system pre-k programs may have zoning requirements that determine eligibility to attend a program at a particular school.

There is no registration fee for this program.

Upon enrollment, child’s immunization record must be provided and no child will be denied participation on basis of income, sex, race, color, national origin or disability.

For Andalusia City Schools, pre-registration dates are from January 15, to March 10.

Acceptance is strictly through random drawing to be held on March 10, at noon at the Andalusia Board of Education. A parent/guardian does not have to be present at the drawing. Notices will be emailed beginning April 16.

For Opp City Schools, the pre-registration date began on Jan. 16 and a random drawing will be held spring 2021 and will be announced at a later date.

For W.S. Harlan, the pre-registration dates are from Jan. 15, until March 15. The random drawing will be held on March 18, at 3:30 p.m., at W.S. Harlan Gymnasium. Parents/guardians do not have to be present at drawing and notices will be emailed beginning April 16.

For Pleasant Home Schools, the pre-registration date is from Jan. 15, until March 1.

The random drawing will take place on March 2, at 9 a.m., at the Pleasant Home library. Notices will be emailed beginning on April 16.

For Straughn Elementary School, pre-registration began Jan. 15 lasting until March 5. The random drawing will be held on March 10, at noon, at the Covington County Schools Board of Education, 807 CC Baker Avenue, Andalusia, Ala.
