Mr. Daniel Curtis Baker, age 92 of Andalusia, passed away on Mon., Jan. 25, 2021.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Thu., Jan. 28, 2021, at Macedonia Cemetery with Rev. Tim Morgan officiating.
He is survived by three children, Curtis Ashley Baker (Cheryl) of Birmingham, Angie Baker Sasser (Wayne) of Andalusia, Linda Baker Jeter (DeWayne) of Huntsville; one brother, Bobby Joe Baker of Winter Haven, Florida; eight grandchildren; thirteen grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Baker served in the Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict. After an honorable discharge, he was employed by Hooper and McDonald Construction Company where he rose to supervisor of their concrete division. He later went into business for himself through D.C. Baker Construction Company as a general civil contractor. He always spoke with pride of the many culverts and building foundations he built during his many years of concrete work, both locally and interstate highway construction sites. Upon retirement, Mr. Baker served as a Covington County commissioner.
Mr. Baker faithfully cared for his invalid wife for over 20 years before her death in 2015. He will be laid to rest next to his wife of 63 years at Macedonia Methodist Church where he was a member.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Miller Baker; his parents, Dewey Lee and Jessie Thrower Baker of Rose Hill; and five siblings, Olean Griffin Hodges, Edna E. Duncan, Billy Joe Baker, Marilyn Morgan Odom, and Kenneth L. Baker.
