The Opp Bobcats saw its season come to an end Friday night with a second-round playoff loss to Montgomery Catholic, 38-0.
The Bobcats stayed within striking distance with the high-powered offense of the Knights, but Montgomery Catholic scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes of the first half to take complete control of the game.
The Bobcat offense could never get momentum. The best scoring opportunity came about midway through the second quarter when a series of penalties against the Knights helped move the Bobcats all the way to the 11-yard line. That drive ended with a failed field goal attempt from 18 yards out.
At that point in the game, the Bobcats were behind 10-0. The Knights would score on an 80-yard pass completion on the first play of their next possession to make the score 17-0.
After going three-and-out and punting, Montgomery Academy added to its lead with an 81-yard drive to take a 24-0 with 22 seconds remaining in the half.
Opp came out in the second half with a 38-yard kickoff return by Brady Lester to the 43-yard line, but the offense could not capitalize and was forced to punt from the 47-yard line. That punt was returned 86 yards to the end zone and increasing the Knights’ lead to 31-0.
The Knights would add another touchdown on a 22-yard touchdown run with 9:27 to go in the game.
The Bobcats end the 2020 season with an overall record of 8-4 and finished second in Region 2.
